SMILIN THROUGH

<A Little Love A Little Kiss>

When the phantom night of summer covers
Field and city with a veil of blue
All the lanes are full of straying lovers
Murmuring the words I say to you

Just a little love, a little kiss
Just another tour of a world of bliss
Eyes that tremble like the stars above me
And the little word that says, you love me

Just a little love, a little kiss
I would give you all my life for this
As I hold you fast, and bend above you
And I hear you whispering, I love you

<Drink to me only with thine eyes>

Drink to me only with thine eyes
And I will pledge with mine
Or leave a kiss within the cup
And I'll not ask for wine
The thirst that from
The soul doth rise
Doth ask a drink divine
But might I of Jove's nectar sip
I would not change for thine

I sent thee late a rosy wreath
Not so much hon-ring thee
As giving it a hope that there
It could not withered be
But thou there on dids't only breathe
And sent'st it back to me
Since when it grows and smells I swear
Not of itself but thee

<"SMILIN" THROUGH>

There's a little brown road wind-in`
over the hill
To a little white cot by the sea;
There's a little green gate At whose
trellis I wait,
While two eyes o` blue
Come smil-in` through At me!

There's a gray lock or two in the
brown of the hair,
There's some sil-ver in mine,
to I see;
But its over the long years
When the clouds brought their tears,
Those two eyes o` blue
Kept smil-in` through At me!,...........

<THERE'S A LONG LONG TRAIL>

There's a long, long trail a-winding
Into the land of my dreams
Where the nightingales are singing
And the white moon beams

There's a long, long night of waiting
Until my dreams all come true
Till the day when I'll be going
Down that long, long trail with you

LAND OF HOPE AND GLORY

Dear Land Of Hope

Thy Hope Is Crowned
God Make Thee Mightier Yet
On Sov-ran Brows
Beloved, Renowned
Once More Thy Crown Is Set
Thine Equal Laws,
By Freedom Gained
Have ruled Thee Well And Long
By Freedom Gained,
By Truth Maintained
Thine Empire Shall Be Strong

Land Of Hope And Glory
Mother Of the Free
How Shall We Extol Thee,
Who Are Born Of Thee?
Wider Still And Wider
Shall Thy Bounds Be Set
God, Who Made Thee Mighty
Make Thee Mightier Yet
God, Who Made Thee Mighty
Make Thee Mightier Yet
Ah Ah Ah Ah Ah
Ah Ah Ah Ah Ah
Ah-------------------------
Amen

<THE KERRY DANCE>

Oh, the days of the Kerry dancing
Oh, the ring of the Piper's tune
Oh, for one of those hours of gladness
Gone, alas, like a youth too soon

When the boys began to gather
In the glen of a summer night
And the Kerry Piper's tuning
Made us long with wild delight
Oh, to think of it
Oh, to dream of it
Fills my heart with tears

Was there ever a sweeter colleen
In the dance than Eily more
Or a prouder lad than Thaddy
As he boldly took to the floor

Lads an lasses to your places
Up the middle and down again
All the merry hearted-laughter
Ringing through the happy glen
Oh to think of it
Oh to dream of it
Fills my heart with tears

Oh, the days of the Kerry dancing
Oh, the ring of the piper's tune
Oh, for one of those hours of gladness
Gone, my love, like our youth, too soon

THE VAGABOND KING

<Only a rose>

Red rose--- Out of the east
Tell the one I love least
Who knows

Red rose--- Out of the west
Tell the love I love best
Love is a rose

Only a rose, I give you
Only a song, Dying away
Only a smile, To keep in memory
Until we meet another day
Only a rose
To whisper, Blushing as roses do
I'll bring along a smile or a song
for anyone
Only a rose for you

MONTE CARLO

<BEYOND THE BLUE HORIZON>

Blow whistle, Blow away
Slow away the past
Go engine, an-y where
I don't care how fast.
On, on, from darkness into dawn
From into the rain-bow, fly with me
Gone, gone, all my grief and woes
What matter where I go, if I am free

Be-yond the blue ho-ri-zon
Waits a beautiful day,
Good-bye to things that bore me
Joy is waiting for me,
I see a new ho-ri-zon
My life has on-ly be-gun,
Be-yond the blue ho-ri-zon
Lies a ris-ing sun.

Refrain only;
LOVE ME TONIGHT

Your heart and my heart
We made to meet.
Don't make them wait--
Love me tonight
Why should our lips
Be afraid to meet?
Love me tonight.
Who knows what tomorrow
brings,
With the morning light?
Dear, I am here
With a heart that sings
Love Me Tonight

CAT AND  THE FIDDLE

Refrain only;
<One Moment Alone>

One moment alone
That's all we have known,
And yet it seemed paradise
Had opened its golden portal
There in your lovely eyes

One moment alone
"Twas then I was shown
A glimpse of an angel fair,
Too much for a lovely mortal
That's why it ended there

One word or two tenderly spoken
Gay little laugh, sad little sigh;
Then all dreams suddenly broken,
Ev`rything changed under the sky

One moment Alone
Is all that we own,
And yet in its joy and pain
Was built a hope eternal,
It might be lived again.

<TRY TO FORGET>

The night that you met me
You went on and let me believe,
That you want me to care,
I could not want you
For something about you,
Instead I fear,
Your love eyes kept calling
I felt I was falling
I thought I knew you
I gave myself to you there,
But now I lost your heart
somehow.

Try to forget all you,
All you have meant to me
And all I meant to you too,
I can demand to you
For you to say to me,
Your day dreams,
Your gay dreams,
Ha Ha Ha
Your bad dreams,
Your mad dreams,
Yet don't you forget will you
Memories have haunt me too.
They want me to know
To go on just to leave
My best to forget
So, I will remember you.

FOLLOW THE BOYS

<I'LL SEE YOU IN MY DREAMS>

I'll see you in my dreams,
Hold you in my dreams,
Someone took you out of my arms,
Still I feel the thrill of your charms.
Lips that once were mine,
Ten-der eyes that shine,
They will light my way to--night,
I'll see you in my dreams.

THE MERRY WIDOW

<VILIA>

The night is romantic
and I am alone
In vain thru my win-dow
the moonlight is thrown
Oh vil-ia, my vil-ia
Oh yes, that`s the tune
The song of the shep-herd
Who cried for the moon
Vil-ia, oh vil-ia
Don't leave me alone
Love calls to love
And my heart is your own
Vil-ia , oh vil-ia
I've wait-ed so long
Lone-ly with on-ly a song
Vil-ia, oh vil-ia
Oh let me be true
My lit-tle life is a love
song to you
Vil-ia, oh vil-ia
I've wait-ed so long
Lonely with on-ly a song
On-ly a song On-ly a song

<TONIGHT WILL TEACH ME TO FORGET>

I thought that this day would
be the day
When my heart would
find romance
Romance, again
I thought that this day would
be the day
And my heart would learn
to dance
To dance again,
It was all just a fleeting game
Men are not, not what they seem
And this beautiful day
Only taught me to regret.
But tonight will teach me to forget,
While I wait, he's forgetting me
It was not just meant to be
And so it seems,
I must close my book of dreams
And I'll seal it regret and forget.

Widows Are Gay

I find that many men say
Widows are charmed,
Widows are gay.
And if the poor ones,
Should be rich ones
We are much more
attractive that way.
We are very pleasing,
But there are sweethearts
Who are not at all,
For Merry Widows
Are simple people,
Just as always before.

The Melody Of Laughter

The Melody Of Laughter

The melody of laughter,
love and Maytime,
That is how we pass the
daytime,
Your tiaras, your pearls
and your lavaliers soon.
Will enrapture the eyes
of each cavalier.
A roundalet of roses,
wines and dances,
Magic glances,
Light romances,
Once again I learn to sing
The melody of Paris
in the spring.

How wonderful a moment
for a gay time,
This is Paris and its playtime,
Every man is a man of
sincerity,
And if he tells you he loves
you, its verity,
Ha Ha Ha! Ha Ha Ha! Ha Ha Ha!
What a feeling it could bring
The melody of Paris
in the spring.

SAN FRANCISCO

<Would You>

I've been reading such romantic stories
Tales of love that set the heart a-flame
Pages that entrance with a new romance
But each plot is really quite the same

He holds her in his arms
Would you Would you
He tells her of her charms
Would you Would you
They met as you and I
And they were only friends
But before the story ends
He'll kiss her with a sigh
Would you Would you
If the girl were I
Would you Would you
And would you dare to say
Let's do the same as they
I Would Would you Widows Are Gay

I find that many men say
Widows are charmed,
Widows are gay.
And if the poor ones,
Should be rich ones
We are much more
attractive that way.
We are very pleasing,
But there are sweethearts
Who are not at all,
For Merry Widows
Are simple people,
Just as always before.

<A Heart That's Free>

Not a thought, not a care
With a heart debonair
I am free as the sea
Like a lark who at dawn
Bid the darkness be-gone
So I sing merrily
With a laugh and a dance
My design ----- To entrance
For I know not what will be
And the things that I bring
And the songs that I sing
Is the song of a heart that's free
AH---------Then let music ring
LA---------While three voices sing
LA---------Pleasure is mine
Echoes repeating--Measures retreating
Song of a heart Light and Free
repeat;
Not a thought, not a care
With a heart debonair
I am free as the sea
Like a lark who at dawn
Bid the darkness be--gone
So I sing merrily
With a laugh and a dance
My design-------To entrance
For I know not what will be
And the things that I bring
And the songs that I sing
Is the song of a heart that's free

<THE HOLY CITY>

Last night I lay a-sleeping
There came a dream so fair
I Stood in old Jerusalem
Beside the temple there,

I heard the children singing
And evermore they sang
Before the voice of angels
From heaven in answer rang.

Jerusalem, Jerusalem,
Sing for the mighty Lord
Hosanna in the highest
Hosanna forevermore

Hosanna in the highest---
Hosanna forevermore------.

BROADWAY SERENADE

<ONE LOOK AT YOU>

One look at you
And all the world
Began to whirl around
One look at you
And soon I knew
My future had been found
One smile--------Perhaps
And then a kiss--Perhaps
And after that----Perhaps
a rendezvous
I lived in awe,
My whole life through
With just- One look at you!

<For Ev`ry Lonely Heart>

I found a love song within a garden fair
I'll sing my love song
Until my love list`--ning shall find me there

For Ev`ry Lone---ly Heart
There's a heart that must be lonely
So I'm singing ,only to a heart
that beats for me
For ev`ry breeze that blows
There's a rose
For ev`ry star on high
A tender sigh
So my heart be gay

<"Un bel di">

(One fine day)

Un bel d`i, vedremo
Levarsi un fil di fumo
Sull`estremo confindel mare
E poi la nave appare
E poi la nave e bianca
Entra nel porto, romba il
sao saluto
Vedi:? venuto
Io non gli scendo incomtrp, io no.
Mi metto la sul ciglio del colle
E aspetto gran tempo
e non mi pesa a lunga attesa.
E usito dalla folla cittadina
Un unmo, un picciol punta
S`avvia per la collina.
Chi sara? Chi sara?
E come sara giunto
Che dira? Che dira?
Chiameri` Butterfly, dalla lontana
Io senza far risposta
Me ne staro` nascosta
Un po` per celia
Un po`per non morire
Al primo incontro.
Ed egli al quanto in pena
Chiamera, Chiamera:
" Piccina- moglietina!
Olezzo di verbena!"
I nomi che mi dava al
suo venire
Tutto questo avverra/
te lo prometto
Tienti la tua paura-
Io con sicura fede lo
aspetto

<One fine day>
("Un bel di")

One fine day, we will see
Arising a ribbon of smoke
Over the far horizon on the sea
And then the ship appears
And now the ship is white.
It enters the port, it rumbles its salute!
Do you see it? he is coming!
I don't go down to meet him, not I
I stay upon the edge of the hill
And I wait a long time
But I do not grow weary at the long wait.
And leaving from the crowded city
Is a man, a little speck,
Climbing the hill.
Who is it? Who is it?
And he arrives
Chi sara? Chi sara?
Who is it? Who is it?

Che dira? Che dira?
What will he say?

What will he say?
He calls Butterfly dalla lontana
I, without answering
Stay hidden in the shadows.
A little to tease him,
A little as to not die.
As in the first meeting,
When troubled in spirit,
He will call, he will call:
"Little one, dear wife!
Orange blossoms!"
All the names he called me
at his last coming.
All this will happen,
I promise you this
Hold back your fears-
I, with secure faith, wait for him

Tramp Tramp Tramp
We march together
Never minding wind or weather.

Tramp, Tramp, Tramp,
We march together.
When the tropic sun is rising
Or the moon is in the sky,
We must go where danger's
hiding
Ready to do or die.
Are you fighting sons of wildcats
Are you with me wrong or right,
Then follow where I go
To meet the savage Ho!

Here's to men who love a fight.

The owl says who are you to sit
there criticzing me;

The Hoot Owl sings from a
sycamore limb
To wit, to who
The bob-cat said some remark
That made him mad clear thru
Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom
Boom, Boom, Boom Boom
The owl said who are you to
sit there critizing me
I understand your not the kind
of a cat you pretend to be,

<'NEATH THE SOUTHERN MOON>

Riding thru the sky
at midnight
There` a witch upon
a magic broom

There's danger in the
southern sky at midnight.
If you look on high.
twill lead you
to your doom.

With the magic scent of
sweet magnolias
And the tender tune
the breezes play,
Before you know, she's cast
her spell around you.
Before you know, she steals

your heart away.

'Neath the southern moon
Where love is warm and Tender
By the southern sea
Where love is warm and free
'Neath the spreading shade
Of palms, you will surrender.

For I know its always June

<SHIP AHOY>

Ship ahoy, ship ahoy,
Who wants to marry a sailor boy.
Ah, Ah, Ah, Ah ,Ah,
You are a lovely maid
I am a lonely man
Just a bit afraid
To disclose my plan.
I Can read it your eyes
I know what you wont say
Marry me, Marry me
I'll carry you far away.
Marry me, marry me
I'm wondering what you say.

Ship Ahoy, Ship Ahoy
Who wants to marry a sailor boy
Here today, sail away
Out on the ocean
He'll take a new notion
And once ashore once ashore
He'll find another one to adore
She'll be his new love
And she'll be his true love
I'll see him never more.

<FALLING IN LOVE WITH SOMEONE>

I've a very strange feeling I've ne'er felt before,

It's a kind of a grind of depression.

My heart's acting strangely, it seems rather sore,

At Least, it gives me that impression.

My pulses beat madly without any cause,

Believe me, I'm telling you unruly.

I'm gay without cause, then sad without pause,

 My spirits are truly unruly.

For I'm Falling in love with some one, some one girl.

I'm falling in love with someone head

a-whirl,

Yes, I'm falling in love with someone plain to see, I'm sure I could love someone madly,

If someone could only love me.

<AH, SWEET MYSTERY OF LIFE>

Ah, sweet mystery of life at last I've  found thee,

Oh, at last I know the secret of it all.

Oh, the longing, seeking, striving,   waiting, yearning,

The idle hopes and joys and burning tears  that fall.

For it's love and love alone the world is  seeking,

And it's love and love alone I've waited  for.

And my heart has heard the answer to its calling,

Or it it love that rules for ever more.

<JULIETTE'S WALTZ>

Je Veux vivre

Douce flamme
Je te garde dans mon ame
Comme un tresor!
Cette ivresse de jeunesse
Ne dure, helas! qu`unjour!
Puis vient I`heure
Ou I`on pleure.
Loin de I`hiver morose
Laisse, moi, laisse moi
sommeiller
Et respirer la rose
Avant de I`effeuiller

I want to live
In this dream which intoxicates me
This day once more,
Sweet flame
I keep you in my soul
Like a treasure!
This intoxication of youth
Lasts, alas, only for one day!
Then comes the hour
When one weeps.
Far from the morose winter
Let me, let me slumber
And breathe in the rose
Before plucking its petals.
Ah! - Ah! - Ah!

Sweet Flame!
Stay in my soul!
Like a sweet treasure
For a long time still.
Ah! Like a treasure
For a long time still.

<PARDON ME MADAME>

Pardon Me Madame

Marie:
Have we met before Madame, he said sweetly?
I froze him so completely...
He continued sweetly--Pardon me Madame!

Am I such a bore, Madame?
This intrusion fills me with confusion...
and for its intrusion, Pardon me Madame.
And then I start to walk a little faster and he did the same thing...
He quickly proved he was a master of the walking game.
Maybe I was all to blame....
I grew weary and he whispered, dearie,
let me tell you how in love I am.
And e kissed and he held e oh so tightly...
saying so politely, Pardon me Madame!

Man sings:
And then she walked a little faster and he did the same...

Marie:
And then I walked a little faster and he did the same,
he quickly proved he was a master of the walking game.

French voices sing:

Man shaving sings:
And then she walked a little faster and he did the same...

Chorus of voices:
He quickly proved he was a master of the walking game.

Two telephone operators sing in French:

A barber sings in French:

Marie:
And then I walked a little faster and he did the same thing,
he quickly proved he was a master of the walking game--Ahhhhhhhhh....

Two Bakers sing in French:

Two cooks sing:
He quickly proved he was a master of the walking game.

Chorus of voices:
Oh, he prove to be a master and so he walked a little faster....

Two Cooks sing:
A little faster ... little faster....

Male Voices sing: A little faster ... little faster...

Marie:

<MOUNTIES SONGS>

Far over the snow what are those voices?
(Male voices sings)> over the snow!
They sing as they go.

What do those voices...

(Male voices sings)> sing as they go?

Look out! for the Mounties!
We come ... somebody hide, somebody better hide!

(Male voices sings)>
On thru' the hail...
Like a pack of angry wolves on the trail,
We are after you dead or alive...
We are out to get you dead or alive...
And we'll get you sure.

If you're the one...

Better run, better run away...

Son, you are done...

Throw your gun, throw your gun away...
Here come the Mounties to get the man they're after now.

<ROSEMARIE>

Bruce:
Oh, Sweet Rose-Marie
It's easy to see,
Why all who learn know you,
love you
Your gentle and kind,
Divinely designed,
As graceful as the pines
above you.
There's an angel breath
beneath your sigh,
There's a little devil in
your eye.

Oh, Rose-marie, I love you...
Forever dreaming of you.
No matter what I do,
I`ll not forget you.
Sometimes I wish that
I had never met you,
And yet, If I should lose you,
T`would mean my very life
to me,
Of all the Queens that ever lived
I'd choose you,
To rule me - My Rose Marie!

<JUST FOR YOU>

Bruce:

The night was stormy, night and cold...
til I recalled a song of old
the serenade to your loveliness...
The night was made just for your caress...
Night has placed a million stars above you.
Night has told the breeze to whisper of you...
Night has brought the silver moonbeams, too--
just for you--just for you....

For tonight will never come again, dear
though you may forget when night is through...
keep this serenade.

That the tender night has made--
as a love song just for you!

Au revoir--Rosemarie!!!

<THREE BLIND MICE>

(Echo part:)
Hello (echo) (Hello) (echo) Hello (echo)
Ooh ooh (echo) Ooh ooh( echo)
Ahh (echo) Ahh (echo)
Three blind mice (echo)
Three blind mice (echo)
See how they run (echo)

Three blind mice
See how they run
They all ran after the
farmer's wife
She cut off their tails
a carving knife
Did you never see such
a sight in your life
As three blind mice.

   <INDIAN LOVE CALL>

oo-oo-oo oo-oo-oo
oo-oo-oo oo-oo-oo

So echoes of sweet love notes
gently fall
Thru the forest stillness,
As the waiting Indian lover's call!

When the lone lagoon
Stirs in the spring,
Welcoming home some swannee
white wing,
When the maiden moon,
Riding the sky,
Gathers her star-eyed dream
children nigh:

That is the time of the moon
and the year,
When love dreams to Indian
maiden appear.
And this is the song that they hear:

When I'm calling you -oo-oo-oo-oo-oo!
Will you answer too-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo!
That means I offer my love to you,
to be your own.
If you refuse me, what shall I do...
...just waiting all alone?
But if when you hear my love call
ringing clear,
And I hear your answering echo,
so dear,
Then I will know our love
will come true,
You'll belong to me.
I'll belong to You!

MAYTIME

Hi: would like to share with you those lyrics I have looked for for years:

<MARCH OF THE GRENADIERS>

        words by Clifford Grey

"Give the word, Stand at arms, every man and obey the trumpet call

Give the word, Stand at arms, spick and span, let your Queen be heard by all

My heart is a flame with your loyalty, For you we stand and fall

Grenadiers, Steady and strong, marching along singing a song of mother land

Grenadiers, Steady in war, ready in love, living to serve no other land

Every uniform taking our hearts by storm, Who could be true as Grenadier?
Steady and strong, marching along, heroes who scorn all fears

Loyal men, the Royal Grenadiers."

All the best...JMDD Member, Norton M.

I am a fan of Jeanette MacDonald. I found some lyrics from the film "Maytime" that your extensive library doesn't have yet, so I thought I would share them with you if you could use them.

"Les Filles de Cadix"

[The Maids of Cadiz]

as sung by Jeanette MacDonald

- music by Leo Delibes, French lyrics by Alfred deMusset

Please note that the original song has three verses, however in the actual film, Maytime, Jeanette only sings the first two.

Nous venions de voir le taurreau,
Trois garçon, trois fillettes,
Sur la pelouse il faisait beau
Et nous dansions un boléro
Au son des castagnettes.
Dites-moi, voisin,
Si j'ai bonne mine,
Et si ma basquine
Va bien, ce matin,
Vous me trouvez la taille fine?…
Vous me trouvez la taille fine?…
Ah! ah!
Les filles de Cadix aiment assez cela!
Ah! Ah!
Les filles de Cadix aiment assez cela!
Tra la la la la.
Tra la la la la.
Les filles de Cadix aiment assez cela!
Ah! Ah!

Et nous dansions un boléro,
Un soir c'était dimanche
Vers nous s'en vint un hidalgo,
Cousu d'or, la plume au chapeau,
Et le poing sur la hanche:
Si tu veux de moi,
Brune au doux sourire,
Tu n'as qu'à le dire,
Cet or est à toi.
Passez votre chemin, beau sire...
Passez votre chemin, beau sire...
Ah! ah!
Les filles de Cadix n'entendent pas cela!
Ah! Ah!
Les filles de Cadix n'entendent pas cela!
Tra la la la la
Tra la la la la
Les filles de Cadix n'entendent pas cela!
Ah! Ah!

 <THE FAT PRIMA DONNA>

Mon ami--mon ami, see the prima donna fair with a line, and a line and a wooly mop of hair...

Hear the prima donna sing "la, la, la"...
Oh the people thinks she's fine--

 la la la...

Because they're full of wine!
Oooooh, vive l'opera...

Now  a dot, and a dot and a little bit of this and that and a curve, with a curve
For the lady's always fat!

Hear the prima donna sing "Mi, mi, mi"
You can bid romance, adieu, la, la, la
She's big enough for two!
Oooooh, vive l'opera, Vive l'opera...

With a dash, and a dash and some fingers for her arms with a touch, and a touch
Oh the Lady's full of charms!

Hear the prima donna sing "Woo woo"
she can always please the crowd,

 la, la, la
Because she sings so loud!
Oooooh, l'opera, Vive l'opera...

Mon ami--bien ami, see my little protégé.
Lack-adee, lack-a-day...
Madame much prefer ballet!

How Madame would skip and prance,

la, la, la
If she ever got the chance--la la la
she'd  really rather dance

Oooooh, l'opera, Vive l'opera...

<WILL YOU REMEMBER>

Ah love is so sweet in the springtime
When blossoms are fragrant in May
No years that are coming can bring time
To make me forget dear, this day in May.
I love you in life's gray December

The same as I love you today
My heart ever young will remember
The thrill it knew, that day in May...

Sweetheart, sweetheart, sweetheart
Will you love me ever?
Will you remember this day?
When we were happy in May
My dearest one!

Sweetheart, sweetheart, sweetheart
Though are paths may sever...
To love's last faint ember
Will you Remember?
Springtime, lovetime, May!

<CARRY ME BACK TO OLD VIRGINNY>

Carry me back to Old Virginny
There's where the cotton and the corn and tatoes grow
There's where the birds warble sweet in the springtime
There's where the old darkey`s heart am longed to go
There's where I labored so hard
for old massa
Day after day in the field
yellow corn
No place on earth do I love
more sincerely
Than Old Virginny
The place where I was born

<FAREWELL TO DREAMS>

We dreamed our little dreams
And now we're wak-ing
To love a little more
The joys we share
We'll smile although are
hearts are break-ing
Just whis-per-ing this

Must we say fare-well to dreams
To our hopes and our golden schemes?
To the lake we roamed,
Hand in hand
To the castle's high
You and I have planned.
Day will end, the night will fall
In my dreams I will hear you call,
Tell me, heart of mine, "Oh tell me"
What am I to do?
Must I say fare-well to dreams
and you!

The Opera "Czaritza!"

Czarina:
My heart is unable to cry,
To mourn the death of the noble Czar
Who has [departed?] without my love.
God forgive me!
May his assassin be rewarded with eternal life.
But I, his unrepenting wife,
My immortal soul is in danger.
did I betray my Czar?

Grusha:
Why should you cry over the death of a tyrant?

Czarina:
You're right. Tyranny died, not the Czar.
Oh my country, my Russia.
God has freed you.
Amen.
(sound of a struggle)

Petrov is dragged in.

Czarina:
Petrov! Dear God ! It's you

Dubrovsky:
The Czar is dead, Long live the Czarina.
chorus sings in Russian. Czarina must go out
on the balcony to acknowledge the cheers of
of the crowds below.

Dubrovsky: (to Czarina)
Here is the traitor's arrest warrant for you to sign.

Czarina (to Petrov)
Quickly defend yourself, or you will die!

Dubrovsky: ( to Czarina)
You hesitate? Sign in the name of the Czar!

Petrov:
God has given the world
Liberty and honor.
(to Czarina) To you I give my life,
Oh, Queen of my dear country.

Czarina:
You will surely die, dearly beloved.

Dubrovsky:
Yes! this villain [dog] must die!

Czarina:
My heart, too, will die.

Petrov:
I am giving my life so the people may live
My life has earned the ultimate reward of my death.
I hear the drums [ as at a hanging] My duty is done.
I'm going to die. My soul is at peace.

Czarina:
Oh, dark destiny, Oh cruel sacrifice,
To be condemned to death.
Your terrible crime will separate us.
Yet you have earned your fate.
duet next two stanzas

Czarina:
You will be executed by the state
Which pitilessly cuts down and punishes the guilty.
This shame will follow you to the grave.
You die for nothing!

Petrov: (sings simultaneously with above)
Death! Death! This shame will not follow me the grave.  I do not die for nothing.

Czarina: ( to everyone present)
Leave us alone. I want to speak with him for a moment.

Dubrovsky ( horrieied)
Your Majesty!

Czarina: (reproving his lack of obedience)
(Yes, indeed, I am now) your Czar!

Petrov:
My love, I recall such beautiful dreams of long ago.

Czarina:
You have no pity if you would leave me like this.
My heart is also on the threshold of death.

Petrov:
This is life, not death, Life is just beginning
More than ever, I adore you.
My soul is exalted. You have liberated me.

Czarina:
Dearest soul, you can see how much i love you.

Petrov:
To leave someone so precious to me.

Czarina:

Your courage will sustain me.

Petrov:
Whether I am in Heaven or Hell--
I love you.

Czarina:
My heart is bursting with joy.
This ecstasy is enough for me.
I love no one on earth but you.
A love I can never lose.

Petrov:
Only love endures, only love endures
Forever, Oh my soul is singing.
A song divine, divine in your embrace.
( again a duet)

Petrov:
I live and love, come, my love.

Czarina:
In your embrace,
I live and love, come my love.
Come, sweet death! Love lives in death.
Invincible love,
Dear Lord, protect us.
Dear Lord, have pity on us.

Petrov:
Dear Lord, on my knees,
I beg you to have pity on us.
Dear Lord, forgive me, Protect our love.

Czarina:
Dear Lord, receive the soul of my dearest love.
Hear my prayer, dear Lord, protect my love.
Goodbye, Goodbye.

Petrov ( as he is dragged off)
Dear Lord, protect my dearest love from harm,
Protect her, I'm going to die, Lord, protect my love.
Goodbye goodbye....
(...then czarina faint in the arms of Grusha
as the curtain descends.)

THE GIRL OF THE GOLDEN WEST

Soldiers of Fortune

We ride;
Soldier's of fortune are we,
Life's what we make it,
We'll grin and we'll take it,
Whatever our fortune may be.

We ride;
Men who are happy and free,
Birds of a feather,
Who travel together,
Good soldier's of fortune are we.

We ride ;
Creep in the night with a song,
Laughing at danger,
We say "Howdy" stranger,
And danger will hurry along.

We ride;
Men who are happy and free,
Shooting and daring,
Fighting and caring,
Good soldier's of fortune are we?
Men who Ride,
Men who Die,
Men who Hide:

Pity me, senorita
I was free, senorita
Till you happened along
With your smile and your song,
And I knew, Yes I knew
That as long as there was love in my heart
I would love only you...
Is it fair, senorita
That I care as I do?
Set me free, senorita
For I see, senorita
You won't love me a little
So why should I love only you,
Senorita? Senorita, Senorita.

<DREAM OF LOVE>

Lieberstraums

Oh dream of love,
my lonely heart has fashioned
from moonbeams that kiss the sea.

Oh dream of love tho'
Waiting may be long
I still believe in thee.
I still believe in thee.

While lonely hours go by
I keep believing we two shall meet
My love and I, Love and I,
We shall meet 'neath a blue summer sky.

Oh song of love,
I hear at twilight
You fill ev'ry lonely moment for me.
And thru the long, long watches of the night
You whisper of days to be.
Oh song of hope,
Oh dream of love,
You fill my heart when days are long.
And so I know tomorrow
May bring to my heart the joys I have missed
And I shall say goodbye,
Goodbye to all of my sorrow.

So let me dream
For while I dream I feel
That life is just a dream.
Oh let me dream
For only dreams are real,
The dream is real
And life is a dream of love.
A dream of love.
A dream of love

<SHADOWS ON THE MOON>

A Summer moon was all so new and shiny
It glowed so proudly in the sky
Now all too soon you'll watch the shadows climbing
Reflecting clouds that wander by

Shadows on the moon
Are saying summers on the wane
The sun will soon give way to autumns rain
Shadows on the moon
Are saying autumn time will go
And soon they'll hear the winter trumpet blow
Sudden melancholy
When the leaves are turning red
But it shouldn't mean that all
Your little dreams and hopes are dead
Shadows on the moon
Are waiting for a smile to start
To chase away the shadows
On your heart

<WHO ARE WE TO SAY>

Love may fill your heart with a strange delight
Love may build a world that is new
Love may leave your heart like a winter night
No one knows just what love will do

Who are we to say
Just what love will do?
Love may live a day, or all life through

Who are we to say
How a rose will grow?
It may fade a-way or bloom and blow

You and I may plan and scheme
And every thing's arranged;
Then there comes a vagrant dream
And all the world is changed!

Who are we to say
When to say goodbye
Or to wonder why we two must part?
So we live today loving while we may dear
Knowing love would say,
O......bey your heart

THE FIREFLY

<LOVE IS LIKE A FIREFLY>

Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah
Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah
Ah Ah Ah Ah
Ah-------------?

What is love, what is love.
I know, It's nothing but a passing show
Where is love, which is love.
When so many hearts are all aglow
I love you, no its you madly!
I really don't know who or why
I'll be true, true to you gladly!
Until another winks his eye
La La La La La La La
La La La La La La La
Loves a brightening,
A fly-by- nighting,
For with the dawn,
Love is on the wing.

Love is like a firefly
That glimmers by and dies
While it is gleaming!
A little firefly
Riding high, In the sky
So when in my twinkling eye
You see a tender love light
brightly gleaming!
Why not try to kiss me
while you're mine,
Before I say goodbye
Ah Ah Ah Ah Ah Ah Ah
Love is like a firefly
That glimmers by and dies,
While it is gleaming!
Ah Ah Ah Ah Ah Ah Ah

<THE DONKEY SERENADE>

Ay Ay Ay Ay
There's a song in the air,
But the fair se-no-ri-ta,
doesn't seem to care
for the song in the air.
So I'll sing to the mule.
if you `re sure she
won't think that I am just
fool ser-e-nad-ing a mule.
A-mi-go mi-o, does she not
a dainty bray?
She list-ens care-ful-y to
each lit-tle tune you play,
Si, Si, mi-cha-chi-to
She'd love to sing it too
if on-ly she knew the way.
But try as she may, in her
voice there's a flaw!
And all that the la-dy can say
is: "E-E--Aw!"
Se-no-rita don-key s-ita not
so fleet as a mos-qui-to,
but so sweet like my Chi-qui-ta,
you're the one for me.

There's a light in her eye,
Tho` she may try to hide it,
She can-not de-ny,
There`s a light in her eye.
Oh! the charm of her smile
so be-guiled Don Di-e-go
that he rode a mile for the
Charm of her smile.
A-mi-go mi-o, is she
lis-ten-ing to my song?
No, no, mi mu-cha-chi-to,
how can you be so wrong?
Si, Si, la se-no-rita.
Her face is a dream like an
an an-gel I saw!
But all that my dar-ling
can scream
is: "E-E-AW"
Se-no-rita don-key-si-ta,
not so fleet as a mos-qui-to
but so sweet like my
Chi-qui-ta, you're the one
for me. O-le`!

<GIANNINA MIA>

In my gon-do-la ,

Love, let us glide

O`er the drowsy blue lagoon,

And float on the yel-low tide,

Where sleeps the dream-ing moon

I`ll fashion a crown you`ll adore,

From the gold that lies

shimmering there,

And the sil-ver-y pearls

from the drip-ping oar

I will set in your hair.

For---I a-dore----I a-adore you

Gian-ni-na mi-a!

More,--more and more,

I a-dore you, Gian-ni-na-mia

Queens there have been,

who in ages of old

Shone more re-splen-dent

with jewels and gold,

Pre-cious jew-els

not half so rare, dear

As the splen-dor-------

of your wondrous hair;

For I a-dore, I a-dore you,

Gian-ni-na-mia

More, more and more

I a-dore you, Gian-ni-na mia!

My heart's your throne, dear,

My heart's your throne, dear,

There you shall rule alone,

A--lone!

<HE WHO LOVES AND RUNS AWAY>

Ev`rything is fair, I know, in love and war;
So I never dare -To give my heart;
I'm so well aware- The one I may a-dore-
May only mean to play-Right from the start.

He who loves and runs away
From a love so true
Lives to love another day
With a love that's new;
If I give my heart away,
Will I wake to learn
That your heart has marched away
Never to return?
Will I find-that the call to arms
Is the call to you-of another's charm
Will I wait a-lone and say
To the stars a-bove,
He who runs away-Is the one I love!
Could you, could you ever be true
To eyes of blue if brown eyes
smiled at you
Though your words be e`er so tender,
If I give my heart in sweet surrender,
Will you march away?
If you give your heart to me,
Must I understand
It may whisper "Set me free"
Hear-ing Love's command
If I give my heart
Will you march away
Ah Ah Ah Ah Ah Ah Ah Ah
If I give my heart
That you'll happily march away
March away , march Away,
March away?

I need sympathy , sympathy

I'm just trying to be

But if my poor heart skips a

Don't blame me

You're but showing, I'm but showing

WHEN A MAID COMES KNOCKING AT YOUR HEART

Ahh,---------Ahh,--------------------------
There` a maid-en knocking at your heart.

When a maid comes knock, knock, knock,
knock, knocking at your heart,
There's no use in for for for
for bidding her de-part,
For the on-ly lock, lock, lock
That's proof a-gainst her charm,
Is the old-en lock, Is the golden lock,
It's the lock that locks her in your heart
Ahh,-------Ahh,---------------------------
When a maid comes knock, knock, knock
knock, knock-ing at your heart,
Won't you let her in
Let Romance be-gin
Then she nev-er, nev-er will de-part.
Ahh,----------Ahh,-----------------
It`s the lock that locks her in your arms.

<The Message Of The Violet>

She's thick with thorns beset
And nature when she breathes of love
Speaks through the violet
I bring a breath of springtime
From woodland where I grow
There's a kiss upon each petal
My lips are sweet with dew
The one who sends this message
Would whisper soft to you
I love you, love you, love you
And my heart's true blue

Badinage

<A Summer Serenade>

There is magic in the melody upon a summer eve
Warm and tender, all night long
And a nightingale is singing to the moonlight in the trees
Oh the splendor of his song
There is music in the murmur of a rippling woodland stream
Gentle music, gently played
Oh the loveliness and wonder of the spell the world is under
Seems to come alive A Summer Serenade
And this young and yearning heart of mine
Is learning a glorious way
With thought sublime on summer time returning
AH, the beautiful music has once again revealed anew
The loveliness heaven made
All the world is singing A Summer Serenade
Lovely music Gently played
Lovely music Heaven made
AH AH AH AH AH AH AH
AH AH AH AH
The Stars, The Moon, my hearts in tune
The whole world seems to harmonize with love
A Summer Serenade

The Stars, the moon, my hearts in tune
The whole world seems to harmonize with love
A Summer Serenade

<LITTLE GREY HOME IN THE WEST>

When the golden sun sinks in the west
And the toil of a long day is o`er
Though the road may be long
in the lilt of a song
We'll forget we were weary before
Far ahead where the blue shadow fall
We shall come to contentment and rest
Then the spoils of the day will be
all thrown away
In our little grey home in the west

There are hands that will welcome me in
There are lips that I'm burning to kiss
There are two eyes that shine
Just because they are mine
And a thousand things other men miss
Its a corner of heaven itself
Though its only a tumble down nest
But with love brooding there
Why no place can compare
With our little grey home in the west

Jeanette Sang this song in both movies:

SWEETHEARTS  & THREE DARING DAUGHTERS

I'll forsake the world for you
I will make your every dream
come true
With the days and nights of love
We will climb to the heights of love
And our happiness we'll share together
Just as lovers do!

Sweethearts, who need no crown
or throne
Sweethearts who live on love alone
We'll find our happiness somewhere
Leaving behind all worldly care
Sweethearts whose days will never fade
Like an eternal serenade
Our love will end the way it starts
Forever we'll be sweethearts

Our love will end the way it starts
Forever on we'll be sweethearts

<PRETTY AS A PICTURE>

I dabbled in the world of art;
I've donned a smock in gay
Mont-martre,
But, just be-tween us two,
Can you tell black from--blue?
I've painted, etched, and
and carved a bit,
I've sculped, and sketched
and starved at it,
Do you know form and line?
I do know you're divine:
Your grace ,-- your style
You're much --too much
Your face , --your smile
A mas-ter`s touch!

Your Pretty as a picture,
Dar-ling your a dream.
Who could paint a picture,
Love-ly as you seem
this moment?
It would take a Rem-brandt
To catch the charm of you.
You're pret-ty as a pic--ture,
An angel from the blue.

Al-though you may think
what you say
Is cle-ver and u-nique,
A hundred mil-lion times a day,
A mil-lion oth-ers speak
The same old line,
The same old line
You're pre-cious, you`re cute,
You're ter-ri-bly sweet"
While we sit by and smile
and sigh,
We just re-peat , re-peat,
re-peat:
Oh, is there a man with
soul so dead
Who nev-er ev-er took her hand
and to his girl-friend said,
You're pret-ty as a picture,
Darling , you're a dream,
Who could paint a pic-ture,
Love-ly as you seem this
moment?
It would take a Rem-brandt
To catch the charm of you.
You're pret-ty as a pic-ture,
And I'm in love with you!

<FOR EVERY LOVER MUST MEET HIS FATE>

For every lover must meet his fate
Forever on my heart will wait,
I'll find her someday
Someday , I will find her again.
Someday, tho the world will divide us,
Somehow, we will conquer it all,
Someway, surely heaven will guide us,
Someday, we will answer loves call.
Always I can see you before me
Your face in its heavenly charms,
Shining in a radiant glory.
For every lover must meet his fate
And for this my heart did wait,
There is no other, no love so great
No love so great , Beloved one,
There is no other, no love so great
Beloved, we are blessed by fate,
We Are Blessed By Fate.

On Parade

Hearts are high when the band goes by
And we're marching on parade.
With flags un-furled , we will show the world
That our colors cannot fade.
To the beat, beat , beat of a million feet,
And the tune by bugles play.
Don't you run, run, run
Get your gun, gun, gun
And go marching on parade.

There's a drum drum where
There's a hum in the air,
Hear the crowd, start to cheer-----(held)
There's a Marshall strain
With a stirring refrain,
Growing loud, drawing near------------(held
It's the stars-----------------held
And the stripes----------------held
On parade, we're on parade
Come on, come on
We're on parade,
Marching on, Marching on----------(held)
Marching on to glory,
We will show the world
That our colors cannot fade.
To the beat, beat, beat of a million feet
And by tune the bugles play.
March along and don't  you run, run, run
Get your gun, gun, gun
And go marching on ,go marching on
Go marching on parade----------------(held) !

BITTER SWEET

<DEAR LITTLE CAFE>

We share a mutual ambition
Which naught can disarrange
Based on a hopeful supposition
That soon our luck will change
Tho we very often wonder
Whether poverty will win the day
Just as long as we remain together
Trouble seems to fade away
However hard the bed one lies on
The same old dreams began
Were always scanning the horizon
For when our ship comes in

We'll have a sweet little cafe
in a neat little square
We'll find our fortune
And our happiness there
We will thrive on the vain
and resplendent
And contrive to remain independent
We'll have a meek reputation
And a chic clientele
Kings will fall under our spell
we'll be so zealous
That the world will be jealous
Of our sweet little cafe
In our square

<I'LL SEE YOU AGAIN>

All my life I shall remember knowing you
All the pleasure I have showing you
The different ways
That one may phrase
The changing light
And changing shade
Happiness that must die
Melodies that must fly
Memories that must fade
Dusty and forgotten by and by

Learning scales may never seem
So sweet again
Till our destiny shall let us meet again
The Will of Fate
May come too late
When I'm recalling the hours we had
Why will the foolish tears
Tremble across the years
Why shall I feel so sad
Treasuring the memories
Of these days---Always

I'll see you again
When ever spring breaks through again
Time may lie heavy---between
But what has been
is past forgetting
This sweet memory
Across the years
Will come to me
Tho my world may go awry
In my heart will ever lie
Just an echo of a sigh
Goodbye

Though there may be beauty in
this land of yours.
Skies are very oft-en dull and gray
If I could but take that lit-tle hand
of yours
Just to lead you se-cret-ly away
We would watch the Danube as
it gently flows.
Like a sil-ver rib-bon winding free
Ev`en as I speak of it my long-ing
grows.
Once a-gain my own dear land to see
If you could on-ly come with me
If You could on-ly come with me.

<TOKAY>

Tokay, Tokay
When were thoroughly wined and dined
And our work has been left behind
We come down to the town to find
Some relief from the daily grind
Love is kind Love is blind
Tokay
When the thoughts of a man incline
To the grapes of the sunlit vine
On the banks of the golden Rhine
Slowly ripening , pure and fine
Sweet Divine Lover's Wine
Sweet Divine Lover's Wine
Lift your vices till the rafters ring
Fill your glasses to the brim and sing
we'll rattle the rafters with our laughter
as we sing Tokay,
The golden sunshine of a summer day Tokay,
Will bear the burdens of your cares away
Here's to the love in you, the hate in you,
desire in you
Wine of the sun that will waft you along
Lifting you high on the wings of a song
The dream in you, the flame in you,
desire in you
Will take you all away
While forgetfulness we borrow
Never minding what tomorrow
has to say
Tokay, Tokay, Tokay,
Tokay!

<ZI-GEU-NER >

Once upon a time, many years ago
Lived a fair princess, hating to confess
Loneliness was torturing her so
Then a gypsy came, called to her by name
Wooed her with a song, sensuous and strong
All the summer long, her passion seemed
To tremble like a living flame

Play to me beneath the summer moon
Zi-geu-ner Zi-geu-ner Zi-geu-ner
All i ask of life, is just to listen
To the songs that you sing
Must be writ like a bird on the wing
Your mel-o-dies a-doring, soar-ing
Call to me with a barbary tune
Zi-geu-ner Zi-geu-ner Zi-geu-ner
Now you hold me in your power
Play to me for just an hour
Zi-geu-ner---------ner

Made my weeping cease, mel-o-dy that brings
merc-ci-ful re-lease, promises of peace
Through the gentle throb-bing of the strings
Music of the plain, Music of the world
Come to me a-gain, hear me not in vain
Soothe a heart in pain
And let me to my hap-pi-ness be re-con-ciled

Play to me beneath the summer moon
Zi-geu-ner, Zi-geu-ner, Zi-geu-ner
Call to me with a barbary tune
Zi-geu-ner, Zi-geu-ner, Zi-geu-ner
Now you hold me in your power
Play to me for just an hour
Zi-geu-ner-----ner?

<WHAT IS LOVE>

Play for me Play for me
Play for me, Set me free
I am in a trance tonight
Can't you see i want to dance tonight
Suddenly my heart is beating
Some insane melody is possessing me
In my brain, thrilling and obsessing me
How can I leave you to go this way
Is this joy or pain

Tell me ,Tell me,
Tell me ,what is love
Is it some con-suming flame?
Part of the moon?
Part of the sun?
Part of the dream only begun
When is the moment break-ing, wak-ing
Skies change
Nothing is the same
Some strange magic is to blame
Voices that seem to echo
round me and above.
Tell me, what is love, love ,love.
What is love

<LOVE IN ANY LANGUAGE>

You can never tell the contents of
a parcel by the string
Or a novel by the cover you
just have to read the thing
If you judge your English cousins
by their manner shy and cold
Then I really think that you were told.

chorus;
Girls are just the same in China
as in London or Paree
In the hills of Carolina or
beside the coral sea
Though they say were to formal
And our temperature abnormal
Love in any language means
oui, oui.

There must be a bit of ooh-la-la
That courses through our veins
So we're always meeting fellas
With umbrellas when it rains
Though we try to be so proper
And we try to be so shy
Can't a lady get a cinder in her eye

Repeat chorus;
"Nelson sings;"
Though her head is very level
And her heart is strictly pure
There's a little dash of devil
in her manner so demure
Her expression is angelic
There is music in her sigh
You should see her when
a soldier passes by
repeat chorus;

Oh what to do

Cut off their heads

Without a mouth

You wont get hungry

Oh that's the way they do it in Paris!

<Shoes to Shine>

Shoes to shine, shoes to shine,
Fancy shoes for dancing and
romancing too,
Shoes for fashion and for fun,
Everything beneath the sun,
Shoes that do not choose to run,
Will I ever get you done.
Shoes for shopping, going , stopping
Shoes for rain
Long before I'm through
I'll have to start again,
Shoes for morning, noon and night,
Every shade from black to white,
Every type from boot to pump,
Suddenly, my heart goes thump;
For I spy one special shoe,
That will tell me tales of you;
Pray little shoe, my petite one,
Say little shoe, how's my sweet one,
Is she aware how very much I'm caring,
Love is a game, daring stranger.
Right, With a flame of danger.
So will it be--Forever, Forever.

Soft-ly, as in a morning sun-rise,
The light of love comes steal-ing
Into a new born day,
Oh! Flaming with all the
glow of sun-rise
A burn-ing kiss is sealing
The vow that all betray.
For the pas-sions that
thrill love
And lift you high to heav-en
Are the pas-sions that kill love
And lets you fall to hell!
So ends each sto-ry.

The light that gave you glo-ry

Love, love all around me
Still no love has found me
Surely there will be
One man meant for me
Some one I would live for
Some I have prayed for
All the night I've seemed
To see him in my dreams
Ever since dreams began
I dreamed of just one man

One kiss
One man to save it for
One love for me alone
One word, one bow
And nothing more
To tell him I'm his all
One magic night within his arms
With passion flow`r un-furled
But all my life
I love only one man
And no other man
Is the one..

<WANTING YOU>

My heart is aching for some one
And you are that someone
You know the truth of my story,
You must believe what you see

I too may someday love someone
From somewhere there'll come one
One who will hear the same story
That your telling me

Wanting you
Every day I am wanting you
Every night I am longin' to
Hold you close to my eager breast

Wanting love
In that heaven I'm dreaming of
Makes that heaven seem far above
Any hope that I'll gain my quest

Dreams are vain
But I cling to the merest chance
that you may hear me

Dreams are vain
For whenever I wake
I never find you near me

Wanting you
Nothing else in this world will do
In this world you are all I adore
All I adore.

<Lover come back to me>

Jeanette

You've gone away I lost you
and so
My long days start
For even now, I miss you
Though were not far apart
Still the memory of the kiss
I gave you
Keeps returning to my yearning heart

The sky is blue
And high above
The moon was new
And so was love
This eager heart of mine was singing
Lover where can you be?
You came at last, love had its day
The day is past, you've gone away
This aching heart of mine is singing
Lover come back to me
Remembering every little thing
You use to do and say
I'm so lonely
Every road I walked along
I walked along with you
No wonder I am lonely
The sky is blue
The night is cold
The moon is new
But love is old
And while I'm waiting here
This heart of mine is singing
Lover come back to me

Reprisal

This secret heart of mine is singing

Jeanette

I never dreamed, I never knew
But at the thought of losing you
This aching heart of mine is singing
Lover come back to me

Nelson

Near or far where ere you are
I'm coming back to you
Love will guide me

Jeanette

In the light that follows night
I1ll see you smiling through
both Your love will be beside me

Nelson

The sky is blue
The night is cold

Jeanette

The moon is new
But love is old

Jeanette and Nelson

And while your waiting there
This heart of mine is singing

I will come back to you...

<Stouthearted men>

Give me some men who are
Stoutheart-ed men,
Who will fight, for the right
They a-dore,
Start me with ten who are
Stout-heart-ed men,
And I'll soon give
you ten thousand more.
Oh, shoul-der to shoul-der,
And boul-der and boul-der,
They grow as they fo to the fore.
Then------there's nothing in the
world that can mar a plan
When---stout-heart=ed men can
stick to-geth-er man to man
You who have dreams, if you act
They will come true
To turn your dreams
To a fact, it's up to you.
If you have the soul and the spirit,
Never fear it, you'll see it thru,
Hearts can in-spire, other hearts
with their fire,
When a strong man shows them the way.,
Oh give me men, give me ten;
Give me some men who are
stout-hearted men
And I'll soon give you
ten thousand more,
Shoul-der to shoul-der
Boul-der and boul-der
They fight as they go to the fore
Then there's nothing in the world

That's very strange in me,
And life`s as sweet as it can be.
I've lots of courage and ambition,
From ev`ry care my mind is free,
So I re-peat with your Per-mis-sion,
There's been a change in me!

Have you heard
I Mar-ried An Angel
I'm sure that the change`ll
be aw-fully good for me.
Have you heard
An an-gel I mar-ried,
To heav`en she's carried
this fel-low with a kiss.
She is sweet and gen-tle,
So it isn't strange.
When I'm sen-ti-men-tal,

This beau-ti-ful change~ll be

<SPRING IS HERE>

Jeanette sings;

Spring is here, things become en-chanted
Spring is here, My heavenly dream is granted
Just for us, the earth is like a play,-place
Quite the gay, lighthearted month of may place

Nelson sings;
Spring is here, I'm finding a new contentment
You are near, I'm learning what heaven sent-meant
Spring is here, my dear

Jeanette sings;
I have heard the things of spring
Play a prelude to summer that's light and fine
I have heard the birds take wing
To a ranndonnee of charming and bright design

Nelson sings;
Now here the violins, within the April winds
Sighing as the symphony begins

both Jeanette and Nelson singing
Spring is here, life suddenly seems beguiling
You are near, no wonder my heart is smiling
For at last I found someone to live for
Spring is here, my dear.

CAIRO

<THE MOON LOOKED DOWN ON CAIRO>

There once was a land
Where conditions in the sand,
I heard of a land
Where miracles are spawned,
I `d never believed the truths
they told,
Those Arabian nights when
nights are long,
Mystical charms, they soon
disappear at night,
Till one wonderful night.

The moon looked down on Cairo,
The moon of the night,
That shows me your smile,
As sphinx looked down on Cairo,
And you and the night,
Chance this one romance,
I'll kiss you there in Cairo,
The spell of the eve must
be true,
For as we kissed the old
pyramid knew
I was forever in love with you,
oo oo oo oo------------------------?
Ah Ah, Ah Ah Ah Ah Ah Ah,
Ah Ah Ah Ah Ah

<KEEP THE LIGHT BURNING BRIGHT>

In old New York there's a lady in the bay
And she watches night and day as the
boys sail away
In her hand there is a light for them to see
Its the light of liberty
And that same flame must burn on the day
when they return;

Keep the lights burning bright in the harbor
Keep it bright through the night
Till the clouds roll away,
On that star spangle day
Keep the light in the bay burning bright
Like a far reaching star in the harbor
Let it shine, Let it shine
Till the world of marching men
All come sailing home again
Keep the light burning bright, Till Then

Beautiful Ohio

Drifting with the current
down a moonlit stream
While above the Heavens
in their glory gleam
And the stars on high
Twinkles in the sky
Seeming in a Paradise
of love divine
Dreaming of a pair of
eyes that looked into mine.

Beautiful Ohio, in dreams
again I see
Visions of what used to
be.

THREE DARING DAUGHTERS

<WHERE THERE'S LOVE>

Where there's love, there's a song
That will always belong in your
memory to live evermore
Something heard long ago
When two hearts were a-glow
And the world was a dream
to explore
Where there's love, there's
a theme
That you found in your dream
And the thrill of it lives in
your heart
To the sky, Let it soar
To your heart there's a score
Where's there's love you'll
find a song
Ah Ah Ah Ah Ah Ah Ah Ah Ah
Ah Ah Ah Ah Ah Ah Ah Ah Ah
All through the ages play
Ah Ah Ah Ah Ah Ah Ah Ah Ah
Don't let your theme get away
Where there's love,
There` a theme
That you found in your dream
And the thrill of it lives your
heart
Ah Ah Ah Ah Ah Ah Ah Ah Ah Ah

Jeanette Sang this song in both movies:

THREE DARING DAUGHTERS & SWEETHEARTS

I'll forsake the world for you
I will make your every dream
come true
With the days and nights of love
We will climb to the heights of love
And our happiness we'll share together
Just as lovers do!

Sweethearts, who need no crown
or throne
Sweethearts who live on love alone
We'll find our happiness somewhere
Leaving behind all worldly care
Sweethearts whose days will never fade
Like an eternal serenade
Our love will end the way it starts
Forever we'll be sweethearts

Our love will end the way it starts
Forever on we'll be sweethearts

south wind were fann`d,
Their blos-soms all frag-ment

Now once a-gain went the
ice from the land,
The snow I saw a-flowing
Runnels were riv-ers
I saw pools expand
With bright wa-ters flowing
Green grew the grass and
the mead-ows once more
Were bloom-ing - with flowers
Lovely a-gain chattered birds
as of yore,
For spring's hours
la la la la la la ----------------
ah ah ah ah ah-----------------
Oh wondrous magic
of springtide.

The Dickey-Bird Song

The dickey-bird whisper-ed
haven't you heard
Spring is here, spring is here,
spring is here."
A little crow sang a happy hello
My favorite time of the year.
A croaking frog sang a song
on his log,
Lose your blues, lose your blues
Lose your blues."
The whip-poor-will did a
Triple -A- Trill
On hearing the dickey-bird`s news.
And the cuck-oo sang a "cuck-oo
To the blue-jay
Who told the lark in the park
Who respond-ed, How-do you do
and How-do you do- jay
How would you like to go
for a lark?
The bob-o-link said i think
that I will
Win-ter`s gone Win-ter`s gone
Win-ter`s gone
The dickey- bird said i give you
my word,
It ain`t gonna snow,
It ain`t gonna rain,
It ain`t gonna snow
any-more."

THE SUN COMES UP

Songs my Mother taught me

Songs my mother taught me
In the days long vanish`d;

Seldom from her eyelids
Were the teardrops banish`d.

Now I teach my Children
Each melodious measure!

Oft the tears are flowing,
Oft they flow
From my memory's treasure

Romance
" If you were mine"

If you were mine to to love
Then I would have my true dream
If you were mine to love
I`d never want a new dream
With you my heart would know
The joy a heart discovers
When first aware that spring and
Some are there for lovers
If I could only say that magic
was my power
I`d change all night and day
to one romantic hour
If you would sing to me
If you could sing for me
So every star above
Would play a theme for me
Ah! My heart will not,
for I designed you
Ah! my soul could not
for I designed you
Ah! tomorrows love is yours
And dreaming would be too
If you were mine?

SONGS OUR JEANETTE SANG

Annie Laurie

Max Welton`s braes are bonnie
Where early falls the dew
And t`was there that Annie Laurie
Gave me her promise true
Gave me her promise true
That ne`er forgot shall be
And for Bonnie Annie Laurie
I'd lay me doon and dee.

Her brow is like the snowdrift
Her throat is like the swan
And her face it is the fairest
That`ere the sun shone on
That`ere the sun shone on
And dark blue is her E`e
And for Bonnie Annie Laurie
I lay me doon and dee

Like dew on the gowan lyin`
Is the fall of her fairy feet
And the winds in the summer sighing
Her voice is sweet and low
Her voice is sweet and low
And she's all the world to me
And she's all the world to me
And for Bonnie Annie Laurie
I'd Lay me doon and dee

If I loved you

If I loved you, time and again
I would try to say,
All I want you to know,
If I loved you
Words wouldn't come
in an easy way,
Round in circles I'd go,
Longing to tell you but
afraid and shy,
I let my golden chances
pass me by,
Soon you would leave me,
Oft you would go in a
mid`st of day.
Never, Never to know,
How I loved you
If I loved you.

Longing to tell you but
afraid and shy.
I let my golden chances
pass me by,
Soon you would leave me,
Oft you would go in a
mids`t of day,
Never, Never to know,
How I loved you
If I loved you.

They'll Never Believe Me

And when I tell them
How wonderful you are
They didn't believe me
They didn't believe me
Your lips, your eyes
Your kindly heart
Are in a class beyond compare
You're the loveliest being
That one could see
And when I tell them
And I'm certainly going to
tell them
That I'm the girl whose
boy one day you'll be
They'll never believe me
They'll never believe me
That from this great big world
You chosen me

Comin` Thro` The Rye

Gin a body meet a body
Comin` thro` the rye,
Gin a body Greet a body
Need a body cry?
il-ka lassie ,has her laddie
Name, they say hae--I;
Yet a` lads they smile at me,
When comin` thro` the rye.

Gin a body meet a body
Comin` frae` the town,
Gin a body greet a body
Need a body frown?
il-ka lassie has her laddie
Name, they say hae--I;
Yet a` the lads they smile at me ,
When comin` thro` the rye.

Smoke Gets In Your Eyes

They, asked me how I knew,
My true love was true,
I of course replied, something here inside,
Can not be denied.

They, said some day you'll find,
All who love are blind,
When your heart's on fire, you must realize.
Smoke gets in your eyes.

So I chaffed them, and I gaily laughed,
To think they would doubt our love,
And yet today, my love has gone away,
I am without my love.

Now laughing friends deride,
Tears I cannot hide,
So I smile and say, when a lovely flame dies,
Smoke gets in your eyes,

Smoke gets in your eyes.

Let me always sing

(Gene Raymond wrote for Jeanette)

Mead-ows are swaying
Wild flow-ers playing
Where God has laid
His heav-en-ly spade
A joy-ful world-
In love a-new

I am joy-ful,
Too O God,
Let me al-ways sing
With the joy in my heart
this spring
Let my be-loved one

love as I
Until the day I die

Song of Love
(A Jeanette and Nelson Eddy Duet)

Once upon a time
In the kingdom by the sea,
Lived a young prince, sad and lonely,
Under enchantment of magic mystery,
To be set free by one only.

Weary he waited while the years sped along,
Come then a maid pure and holy,
Love broke the spell so the story books tell
And he laid at her feet this song.

You are my song of love,
Melody immortal,
Echoes of paradise,
Heard through heaven's portal.

Soft your music is singing.,
Bringing secrets in its song to me.
Your vision shines on me from above,
You are my song of love,
All the glory of love!

<ONE ALONE>

Lonely as a desert breeze
I may wonder where I please
Yet I keep on longing
Just to rest a while

Where a sweetheart's tender
eyes
Takes the place of sand and
skies
All the world's forgotten
In one lover's smile

One alone, to be my own
I alone to know your caresses
One to be, eternally
The one my worshipping soul
possesses
At your call, I give my all
All my life and all my love
enduring
This would be a magic
world to me
If you were mine alone

<KISS ME AGAIN>

Ah! dear one!
How often I think of the past!
Can it be you forget?
Perchance `twas a passion too
wondrous to last,
But I dream of it yet!
I see you again, as you gazed in
my eyes
With joy all alight!
So fondly you'd fold me as
softly you told me
Of Love through the star-
sprinkled Night....
Sweet summer breeze
Whispering trees,
Stars shining softly above!
Roses in bloom.
Wafted perfume,
Sleepy birds dreaming of love
Safe in your arms,
Far from alarms,
Daylight shall come but in vain
Tenderly pressed
Close to your breast!
Kiss me,
Kiss me again!

Kiss me again!
Kiss me!
Kiss me again

Refrain only;
<MY ALICE BLUE GOWN>

In my sweet Alice Blue Gown
When I first wandered down
Into town
I was both proud and shy
As I felt ev`ry eye
But in ev`ry shop window
I'd primp, passing by
Then in manner of fashion
I'd frown
And the world seem`d to
smile all around
Till it wilted I wore it
I'll always adore it
My sweet little
Alice Blue Gown

When you're Away

Though time may let sometimes forget,
Until, with but a sigh,.
The mem`ries of a passionate love
Turn ashen cold and die

For me there still can be but you
Come weal or woe, my love is true!
Ah! dear one, if you only knew
My heart, when you're away......

When you're away, dear
How weary the lonesome hours!
Sunshine seems gray, Dear!
The fragrance has left the flow`rs!

Ever I hear you in seeming.
Whisp`ring soft love words to me!
Ah! If I knew `twere but dreaming!
Ne`er to be!

Then when you are near me,
There's naught that I strive to do,
Save to endear me more fondly, my love to you!

Never again let us part, dear!
I die without you, mine own!

Hold me again to your heart!
I love you alone!
Love you, mine own!
Love you, alone!

My Heart Stood Still

Through all of my school days
I hated boys,
Those April fool days
brought me loveless joy,
I read my Plato, love,
I thought a sin.
But since your kiss
I'm reading missus , glyn!

I took one look at you
That's all I meant to do,
And then, My heart stood still.
Though not a single word
was spoken
I could tell you knew,
That unfelt clasp of hands
Told me so well you knew,
I never lived at all
Until the thrill of that moment,
When, My Heart Stood Still.

The Breeze and I

oooooooooooooooooooo
The breeze and I
are saying with a sigh
That you no longer care,

The breeze and I
are whispering "goodbye"
To dreams we used to share.

Ours was a love song that
seemed constant as the moon.

Ending in a strange
mournful tune.

And all about me they know
You have departed without me and
We wonder why,
The breeze and I.

Blue Bells Of Scotland

Oh where, tell me where is your Highland laddie gone?
Oh where, tell me where is your Highland laddie gone?
He's gone with streaming banners where noble deeds are done
And it's oh! in my heart I wish him safe at home.

Oh where, tell me where, did your Highland laddie dwell?
Oh where, tell me where, did your Highland laddie dwell?
He dwelt in bonnie Scotland where bloom the sweet bluebells!
And it's Oh! in my heart I rue my laddie well.

Oh what, tell me what, does your Highland laddie wear?
Oh what, tell me what, does your Highland laddie wear?
A bonnet with a lofty plume, and on his breast a plaid,
And it's oh, in my heart I love my Highland lad.

I'll Follow My Secret Heart

I'll follow my secret heart
my whole life through,
I'll keep all my dreams apart
till one comes true.
No matter what price is paid,
what stars may fade above,
I'll follow my secret heart,
till I find love.

Believe Me, If All Those Endearing Young Charms

Believe me if all those enduring young charms
Which I gaze on so fondly today,
Were to change by tomorrow and flee in my arms,
Like fairy gifts fading away
Thou wouldst still be adored as this
moment thou art,
Let the loveliness fade as it will.
And around the dear ruin each wish of my heart,
Would entwine itself verdantly still.

HERE IN MY ARMS

Nanette;
Here in my arms
its adorable
Its deplorable
That you were never there
When your two lips are so kissable
Its permissible for you to ask your share
Next to my heart
It is ever so lonely
I'm holding only air
Why
Here in my arms
Its adorable
Its deplorable
That you were never there
Male Chorus;
Here in my arms
Your adorable and you're kissable
Nanette;
Its permissible
For you to ask your share.
All;
Next to my heart, it is ever so lonely
I'm holding only air
Why
Nanette;
Here in my arms
It's adorable (adorable)
Its deplorable
That you were never there
(That you were never there)

Love's Old Sweet Song

Once in the dear dead days beyond recall.
When on the world the mists began to fall,
Out of the dreams that rose ain happy throng
Low to our hearts Love sung an old sweet song;
And in the dusk where fell the firelight gleam
Softly it wove itself into our dreams

Just a song at twilight
When the lights are low,
And the flickering shadows
Softly come and go

Though the heart be weary,
And the day long,
Still to us at twilight ,comes Love's old song
Come Love's old sweet song.
